Student nurse - childcare costs
Fri 05-Dec-08 10:04 AM

Ok, i'll try to put this as clear as i can....

I have a couple with 1 child. He works full time, she is a nursing student studying for a diploma in nursing.

She gets a bursery for living costs, but uses half of it £250 pcm, to pay for a registered child minder to look after the child whilst she is at college.

TC will not pay any child care. but are paying some CTC and WTC

They have applied for HB, but they take the bursery into account in full, and do not apply a childcare disregard.

Seems unfair that a couple trying to better themselves are not getting this assistance from the system. Does anyone know of a way around this.

I am thinking he could go part time to look after the child whist she is studying, HB would probably end up paying far more this way, but i really dont think my clients will want to go down this route.

Thanks in advance.

I think i have sorted it, there appears to be a bursary for childcare costs available from NHS.

Problem solved
