I have just started work with a new firm that has never had a welf before. In my previous job with the Citizens Advice Bureau, if you had to correspond with the Tax Credits Dept, you needed a reference number for your organisation, which they gave you. If you didn't have one, they refused to correspond with you. In particular, you need an "organisation reference number" to put on the TC689 form when you are acting for a client. I need to get one for my current organisation, does any-one know how to apply? The only information on the HMRC website is for accountants who are dealing with people's income tax and VAT returns. When I phoned the tax credits helpline, and then phoned their Preston office direct, the tax credit dept staff had no idea what to do.
