Eligible costs for HB
Wed 08-Aug-07 09:59 AM

Hi,

Am looking for advice concerning eligible costs for HB, specifically relating to the costs of window cleaning.

In a sheltered scheme with a resident manager, I know that the cost of cleaning tenants windows (outside of windows) is eligible as is the cost of cleaning the windows in the communal areas. The question I have is as follows:

Included in the service charge breakdown for the residents, there is a small amount to cover the costs of cleaning the windows of the scheme managers personal accomodation (not the scheme managers office accomodation). My initial reaction is that this is probably not going to be eligible for HB but I can't find anything in the HB regs to confirm this.

Any advice/information etc about where I can get a definitive answer on this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

John

If the purpose of the scheme manager is to provide the tenants with support, the cost of cleaning their windows is a consequence of providing support and therefore not eligible. As we are talking about the scheme manager's "personal accommodation" I suspect that this is most likly to be the case in the situation you are describing.

However, if the scheme manager just provides normal landlords functions then the charges for cleaning (for example) office windows are eligible.
