hello again fellow head scratchers...have a client who has a 16 yr old son(17 on 19/01/05)and they are on an "e2e" entry to employment work based learning course for which they receive a £45- p.w allowance.i don't think there is but is there any circs when a person can continue to receive cb/ctc if their child receives a training allowance.as ever, grateful for any responses given and have a beautiful day all...

Have same problem myself.

I have spoken to Connexions and the Learning and Skills council, who run the scheme.

Basically, they don't know the answer - they think that the children should not qualify for CB / CTC, but they don't understand the eligibility rules for CB / CTC.

In my case, the child is attending college, and I think is in relevant education. If she is, I think she qualifies for CB / CTC, and her payments from e2e do not affect these claims - unless something has been included in CB or CTC regs which says different.

The fact of having a training allowance does not disqualify them of itself, as far as I can see. Indeed, EMA is specifically paid alongside CB and CTC.

Clearly a child on e2e who cannot satisfy the qualifying conditions for CB could not claim. Important points here seem to be about relevant education, "employed trainees" and employement per se.

I am going to have to check the regs.

Has anyone seen any amendments to either CB or CTC which relate specifically to e2e? E2e was introduced in July 2003.

was beginning to think that i was the last welfare benefits caseworker on the planet so thanks for your reply emmab...it would appear to be a very stupid set of written guidelines(regs)relating to these circs and i have spoken to cb and have been unable to get a satisfactory answer to the query.will keep looking for possible answers myself and if i come up with anything will let you know...keep the faith and have a good day...
