Single Room Rent
Thu 09-Jun-05 12:00 PM

I am supporting a 17 year old female who is pregnant. She is currently living within our supported housing project, but due to our licence agreements, she cannot continue to live within the project after the baby is born. She has registered with the local Council for Social Housing, but we don't expect she will be housed before the baby is due.

My problem is that I have been told that the Single Room Rent restrictions will apply to her right up until the baby is born. This means that she will not be able to find and secure alternative accomodation (i.e. 2 bed flat)before her baby is born.

Has anyone come across a similar problem or have any ideas as to how she might be able to move into a flat before the baby is born so that when she comes out of hospital she and the baby have a home to go to?

The SRR will apply until the baby is born. In my Authority under simular cercumstances we grant Discretionary Housing Payments in the interim period. It might be worth asking the LA concerned if this is something they would consider.
