Hello,
I have a lady whose son is suffering from mental health problems. He did make a claim for ESA himself, but the payments have now stopped because the doctors sick note has run out. Her son is refusing to engage with the local CMHT so they have been unable to do an assessment and provide further medical evidence. He has been given an appointment for a medical assessment by DWP for ESA but his mother thinks it is unlikley he will attend. He appears to be refusing to acknowledge he is mentally unwell. He lives independently and will soon have no money left.
I have advised on appointeeship, however this doesn't seem to get round the issue of him not acknowledging he has a mental health problem and therefore not taking part in the assessments.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of this and if so how they got around it.....thank you.
