Third Party Payments/arrears
Wed 19-Mar-08 03:12 PM

Hi all

wrt Third Party Payments from JSA/IS for rent arrears:

Can these be set up before arrears have accrued? It can be advantageous for some of our service users to set TPPs up straight away to pay their rent when entering a service. This is in the interests of the service user, especially if undergoing drug treatments. Is there a minimum number of weeks' arrears needs to accrue before these can be set up?

Thanks

To qualify for direct deductions of rent the claimant must have accumulated arrears of rent amounting to at least four times their weekly rent. See: Social Security (Claims and Payments) Regs 1987 Sched 9, para 5(1)(c)
