Housing Benefit on part owned properties
Thu 21-Sep-06 11:25 AM

My HA is looking at providing part-ownership properties specifically to disabled persons. We already do some part ownership but since HB claims are so rare I have never had to look up any regulations. We expect that with disabled residents HB could be more prevelent - reflecting Disability premiums etc.

As far as I know, (shared owned)HB is granted on a service charge/rent liability - but I do not know what regulations, if any cover what can be included in rent or service charge.

What I need to know is:
Are there specific regulations for part ownership HB claims?
Are service charges defined differently?

Simple answer, No and No.
The rent element is treated in the same way as rent on any other type of property and service charges are also treated in exactly the same way.
