Changes to the calculation of Tax Credits for HB ???? Fri 28-Jan-05 09:53 AM
In his pre budget speech the chancellor announced that as from April 2005, there would be changes in the way in which income from tax credits is taken into account in Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit in order to help speed up the administration of claims.
Does anyone have any further information on this??

I would be interested in knowing this also! as at the moment i am told by a local housing benefit dept that they take into account the tax credit award and if there is any reduction for in year overpayment they will not deduct it off the calculation when working out income from CTC/WTC, yet i cannot find anything to back up what they are saying!!

There is a news story on here dated 16 Feb which has a link the relevant DWP circular - A5/2005. Basically the new regulations mean that a tax credit instalment will be used to calculate the weekly amount of tax credit income to take into account.
Should be a fairer and more transparent way of doing it. Well in theory anyway.
