Couples who separate - probably a stupid question
Thu 30-Mar-06 04:55 PM

Sorry about this, I just can't get my head to work today.

If a couple claiming tax credits separates and one partner makes a new claim for tax credits, what is the relevant income? Is it just the income of the partner who is now claiming or is it the income of the partner now claiming for the period of separation added to joint income for the period prior to the separation?

I'm going with just the one partner's income but I don't feel confident about it for some reason.

It's just the income of the one partner making the fresh claim. Circumstances prior to the date of the fresh claim are irrelevant. Treat it like there was no previous claim and a single parent is making a fresh claim.
