work and incapacity benefit Sun 20-Mar-05 06:36 PM
I am having trouble finding the answer to this.
If someone has been on long term incapacity and wants to return to full time work can they claim benefit up to the expected date when they will get their first wages or does it stop on the first day of work thus potentially leaving client without money for 1 month.
I would be glad to receive any help with this. Thank you

If they have been on incapacity based benefits for at least 26 weeks and the job will last at least five weeks and they are over 25 years and they let JC+ know they are starting work - they can get £100 Job Grant. If they fulfil these conditions their HB and CTB will continue at the full rate for 4 weeks also and will continue to be paid until the local authority have assessed the new amount payable. They might also be able to get a budgeting loan or a community care grant. They must register to use the 52 week Linking rule in case the job doesn't work out. The Disability Alliance have just published a useful guide for people advising their mental health clients who want to try work on benefits or to get a job following a claim to incapacity based benefits. It is called The Way to Work and is suitable for advising people with other health problems. Judy Scott
