The DWP will soon be publishing a Green Paper/consultation that will include proposals to reform the 'benefits regime' (as described in the new drugs strategy) for problem drug users.
DrugScope would like to hear from advisers who have recent experience of helping people with drug or alcohol problems - e.g., issues when making claims, assessments, appeals etc. The Green Paper is likely to focus on heroin and crack users and those claiming JSA and IB but we are keen to hear about the experiences of people with other substance misuse problems and across the range of benefits.
In the first instance if you could drop me an email at DrugScope briefly outlining the benefits or issues you have experience of - we may give you a call, ask you to complete a short online questionnaire or explore whether you would be interested in joining an advisory group. All information will be treated in confidence. My email address: martinb@drugscope.org.uk
many thanks,
Martin Chief Executive
