Limits on recovery of overpayments
Wed 28-Mar-07 01:27 PM

Does anybody know if the government is going to introduce the limits on the amount of tax credits that can be recovered off a person's current entitlement this year?

And if they are, what were the rates again? I seem to remember something about the maximum amount to be taken off would be 25% as long as the claimant was entitled to more than the family element of CTC. Does this include child care costs?

Cheers

Ali

Its been put off until April this year at the earliest.

Read about it in the rightsnet news section link below if you have paid, if not dont be so tight in future.

they're aiming for june at the moment ....

when they first announced it in december 2005, they said that -

'... from November 2006, automatic limits will be imposed on the extent to which tax credit payments can be reduced to recover higher payments in the earlier part of the year which could lead to an overpayment for the year as a whole. These limits will be set at the same levels at which overpayments from a previous tax year are currently recovered.'
then it was delayed until April 2007 at the earliest as bill says above

but then last week the Paymaster General told the Commons Treasury Sub-Committee -

'... all the information I have is that it will happen in June. Of course it is regrettable that it has slipped but I am sure you would agree ... that it is important in implementing the change that we make sure that it is actually working in the way that we are intending it to, so I share your disappointment but it will be implemented in June.'

Thanks for that Shawn. So that means they might get round to implementing it just as Labour are facing defeat in the General Election, then?

And ooh, billmcc, did you get out of the wrong side of bed? Thanks, I had already read that story, and yes, I do subscribe, I was wanting to know if any body had heard anything further.
