BEENFITS FOR YOUNG OFFENDERS
Wed 16-May-07 03:41 PM

In a moment of weakness I agreed to do some training for our Youth Offending Service. the kids are generally 16 or 17, possibly just turned 18. I have suggested the following scope

The workshop will cover the effects of detention and release of young prisoners on their entilement to Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance, disability/sickness benefits and housing benefits. Outside prison they may be living independently, with family, in a bail hostel or be homeless. In prison they may be convicted or on remand. Outside prison they may be permanently or temporarily released, on license or on home curfew. The use of the Social Fund to help with re-settlement costs will be covered, as will methods of claiming benefits and informing the DWP or local authority of changes of circumstances.

I have trawled the net and found a few bits and bobs from NACRO and Adviceguide. Is anybody out there working in this field and do you have any info I could use/plagiarise/etc? Promise to pay you back.

Many thanks, Brian tel 01670 534446
