is one of the UK's largest IT service providers with 26 million customers affecting 33% of all retail banking transactions within the UK. You will be joining our Programme and Systems Delivery Group (PSD) in running the largest, most radical change programme in Europe...

yep. it's the social security department, but who'd a thunk it?

check out the links below. for some reason, i didn't find these on the DWP website, maybe cos the salaries might upset those poor old admin assistants, or because they're cutting posts, and all this recruitment might look like porkies, or greedy hyppos...must be the cuts are only in benefit staff...?!!!!

sure looks like social security is a side line/cover story for the DWP in this business!

: )

looks like the days of the english O level requirement are long gone.

it bothers me rather and i wonder whether we should borrow a leaf from the French book and insist on the work of government being conducted in english. Jim hacker didn't stand a chance with Sir Humphrey even in English, and wickedly, i can't help imagining a briefing between say, the Architect of Security and the Deputy Prime Minister. i suspect the only possible outcome of such a meeting would be dear John sending for a large Scotch and the head of the Owner of the A1.

more worrying, i suspect that the PM himself would actually understand what it all meant. scary!

i'm quite taken by the creation of the Stewardship of the Pensions Service.

the blurb is incomprehensible, but the title has something of a Trollopian ring about it. maybe we'll see an increase in the Culture Ministry's budget, and who knows, once near obsolete words like sinecure and barratry could be on the lips of every sun reader.

As a humble serf, whoops i mean welf and being struck by the parallels of the venal system of Ancien France before the revolution and the system of privatisation, pfi's, contracting out and patronage of the current governing system, um what's barratry mean.

greetings, welf andy

i have an ancient and venerable Chambers dictionary to hand which states-
barratry - fraudulent practice on the part of the master or mariners of a ship to the prejudice of the owners;
vexatious litigation: stirring up suits and quarrells, forbidden under penalties to lawyers;
traffic in offices of church or state.

i can't help it, 'they' made me read 'The Warden' for o level...that was the welfare state for you...

now the violence inherent in the system is something completely different...

I think my NVQ in Applied Piracy included a module on Basic Barratry for Beginners - but I'd spliced a lot of mainbraces that week, so my memory's a bit fuzzy.

We were not allowed to study piracy (in Cornwall), hence the fact i missed out on basic barratry, which i think was discriminatory, i know Birmingham is the Venice of the midlands, and Sheffield has got the river Don, but there not exactly seafaring nations.

Still we could do a CSE in rural studies, which we reminds me we had a school trip to abbattoir, probably why i fled to the metropolis.

I'm glad i know what barratry is now, but i feel i missed out, i never read The Warden at O level, did read Watershipdown though, must be why i've only got a basic dictionary.

Still we live in a confessional TV age, and i feel better now that i've got all my angst out in the open.

we are very deprived and coastally challenged in brum, and we talk funny here, which might be why most people i know jump at the excuse to talk like a pirate...the Robert Newton version that is... i expect you are too young...: )

maybe if we all got our confessions up front it would save 'them
the trouble of dog-tagging us?

(1984 for A level, btw)

If you had nothing better to do, and you really wanted to talk like a pirate, you could look at www.yarr.org.uk/talk

It makes a lot of sense, if only the current political culture and the way we are politically socialised had a similar rationale.
