Manchester Advice have a Teenage Pregnancy Advice Worker post funded through the Joint Health Unit. The advice worker works specifically with young pregnant women aged 12 - 19 years old. Advice sessions are held at a local maternity ward and 2 Connexions offices. Her experience is that this is quite a demanding client group due to: • Literacy problems • Lack of confidence and organisational skills • Difficulties in maintaining contact with clients • Disclosure of inaccurate information • Difficulties with parental relationships • Poor advice by relatives and other agencies • Constantly changing circumstances • Complexity of the benefits system
I would be interested to hear if any other Advice Agencies have similar posts and what their experience of the work involved is? If not, do pregnant teenagers approach your advice sessions for advice?
