Who wants to be a £1.8 billionaire? How to improve council tax benefit take up

Local Government Association conference - Thursday 20 September 2007
Lack of take up of benefits in general is both high and a perennial problem. Lack of take up of council tax benefit in particular is currently running at around £1.8bn a year. This is money which should be in the pockets of our pensioners and the lowest paid. What can be done to ensure that this entitlement is paid? What part can local authorities play?

This conference will bring together key players to report on what they are doing to transform payment of council tax benefit. It will also provide a showcase to highlight the partnerships and innovative ideas which local government is already involved with as they attempt to improve the wellbeing of their communities.

Sir Michael Lyons reported earlier this year and said a new approach to the delivery and presentation of council tax benefit is required. What has happened since the publication of his report in March?

This is a full programme, one where we offer the opportunity not only to listen but to debate a crucial policy agenda.
Location - Local Government House, Smith Square, London SW1P 3HZ.
