Appointee action with AA
Wed 05-Nov-08 03:23 PM

Please could someone let me know where to learn more about my current knowledge gap?
Family member of client just contacted me to say Pension Service visitor has explained during call to arrange appointment that parent needing appointee will have to have all benefits paid into a bank account that is not in their own name.
I did not know this.
Apparently, if appointee action proceeds (it is appropriate, both spouse and other family support clients life in all aspects due to memory loss condition) then benefit must not be paid into clients own personal bank account nor joint account of client and spouse.
I apologise I had no idea.
Sandra

I work for a company that is a registered corporate appointee with the DWP. I have not come across the DWP saying that benefit cannot be paid into the clients own account, despite having an appointee.

I have had a quick look in the Agents, Appointees, Attorneys and Receivers Guide and can't see anything that stipulates were payment should be made.

Perhaps seeing that your client has a memory loss condition, the VO was concerned as to whether the client could access the account?

Regards

Julia

I have read the Appointees part of the guide now updated August 2008. There is a paragraph with several alternatives for benefit payment.
Thanks for replying
