Client from Bulgaria
Tue 10-Jul-07 12:13 PM

Hi all, looking for some info and assistance for Bulgarian client who has recently arrived in UK with no contacts or job /housing arranged.

He is apparently running out of Money and on checking the various benefit regs, it appears our client has no recourse to public funds.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does he have the appropriate form of authorisation to work in the UK (under the special "work permit" scheme for A2 nationals)?

A2 nationals are even harder to find a right to reside for than A8 becasue they can't even get worker status without a work permit - they can't just turn up and work.

I don't know exactly how the scheme works, eg whether it is possible to apply while within the UK or who applies. However if it is like the third country work permit scheme - and I seem to recall it is - then the application must be made by the UK-based employer before the employee arrives.

I did a quick search on the search facility using "A2 nationals" as the serach term and there are quite e few leads if you follow that. in the News section. But it looks even more dismal than for A8s who aren't workers.

Thanks for these pointers which we will look into. It unfortunately appears that this client is on their own. He has literally just arrived in the UK looking for work with any advice or assistance from any potenetial employer or the means to provide for himself.

We will persevere with trying to advice him about his employment options and hoping he will be able to gain some meaningfull employment soon.

Thanks again.
