Anyone from Powys?
Thu 08-Nov-07 08:13 AM

Bore da! I'm looking to refer someone for benefits advice. She lives in Newtown, Powys and I was wondering if any of you are based there? I've looked on CLS Direct and know there's a CAB but would like to give her a choice if possible.

Hereford is on the borders of Powys. We are about 60 miles from Newtown. Don't know if that helps or not!

Sorry, I wasn't being funny. It's just that our PI team has referred her to me as she's had two recent accidents and can't get about much at the mo. I'd prefer her to see someone local as it's daft me taking on benefit cases from outside the locality.

I'll write and let her know though and thanks very much for the offer.

I'm not sure of the exact rules for taking on clients "out of catchment" but I dont think it should be a particular problem in terms of public funding, its a one off and you already have a realationship with the client afterall. If in doubt I usually just telephone my LSC regional office.

I know I've done it in the past. I always prefer to see clients in person and am sure they feel the same. Local advice for local people (always makes me shudder when I think of Papa Lazarou, Dave).

The really spooky one from the League of Gentlemen who has black and white minstrel type makeup and calls everyone Dave. The village is Royston Vasey where they have a "local shop for local people" and my post brought him to mind - Sorry!!

If you've not seen it, it's more than a bit weird.
