Simple, my dear Watson...
Fri 22-Dec-06 11:34 AM

Colleagues,

Had a client recently who is on adult only IS. She had a child and thought it best to claim CTC, which started in payment. DWP became aware of this change, but promptly deducted the CTC from the claimant's adult only IS. After some correspondence, this is sorted out.

What is interesting, however, was the explanation from the DWP. The DWP computer did not know client had a child, so when DWP learned client was getting CTC, the computer assumed it must be WTC, and counted it as income. What is even more curious is that the (one assumes) computer generated notification letter clearly shows an adult only applicable amount, with 'child tax credit' as income!

A case of knowing, and not knowing, at the same time.

Apologies in advance if this issue has already been discussed before.

Happy Christmas!

Steve
