Deductions from benefit
Wed 10-Jan-07 07:38 PM

Hi,
I am due to see a client for a benefit check, nice n easy i hope. However, one thing concerns me with regards to deductions he is having from his benefit. The deductions are due to continue for 25 years!! Is this 'normal' and is it o.k for this to happen?

What are the deductions for? Deductions are made to recover a fixed amount such as a social fund loan, overpayment, council tax arrears etc, so would continue until that amount is cleared. A large overpayment could easily take 25 years.

Thanks for reply. It emerged deductions were for DLA paid due to injured back, found not worthy a couple of years ago. So over £11,000 to repay.
