tax credits and dla claim
Fri 06-Jan-06 09:02 AM

If you have an existing claim for tax credits and you make a claim for dla, do you need to tell tax credits that you are making the dla claim to get the full backdating of the disability element (assuming it takes longer than 3 months for a decision on dla)?
Thanks.

you dont have to inform themwhen you make the claim. If dla is awarded all you do is give tax credits a call and they will backdate without any problem.

If it is DLA for a child, and you want to claim extra money for them you do have to tell them - you are supposed to indicate on the form is you have claimed, and report a claim as a change of circumstances. It says this in the notes that go with the form (unfortunately the form itself doesn't make this clear - someone on another, old, thread I have already expressed my opinions on this).

They may backdate without difficulty anyway, but if they refuse you might have difficulty.

I have no knowledge about adult DLA and wouldn't argue with Gerry about that.
