21 year+ Tenancy
Tue 26-Apr-05 12:12 PM

Hi
I have a gentleman who use to receive HB however, it became apparent that his tenancy was over 21 years and therefore HB ceased. However, I am wondering if there is any financial assistance available to this claimant to help pay towards their rent. The person has contacted Citizens Advice and Welfare Rights and has been told there is nothing available.

Surely there must be something available to finacially assist this person, please help.

Many Thanks
Emily

It can be covered by IS/JSA or PC housing costs. For IS it is para17(1)(a) of Sch 3 to the IS Regs
"payments by way of rent or ground rent relating to a long tenancy"

For JSA it is Sch2 para 16(1)(a) of the JSA Regs
For PC it is SchII para 13(1)((a) of the PC Regs

All are in the same terms as the IS Regs

Your cl;ient must of course otherwise qualify for one of the above benefits before houing costs can be met
