HB overpayment
Wed 26-Sep-07 04:26 PM

Hi folks.

I have a client who has a HB overpayment of c. £7,000 from 17/3/04 - 31/07/07.
This has arisen because he did not tell HB that he was receiving WTC.
He has been getting WTC based on an award of High rate care component of DLA.
Can you see where this is going...?

He actually has an award of low rate care and low rate mobility.
He works 16hrs per week.
There will be a WTC overpayment.
The client has learning difficulties and I'm going to try and get the WTC o/p written off.

My question is...
Will/ can the fact that he has been receiving too much WTC and there will be an overpayment be taken into account and reduce the HB overpayment, or is it just tough?

*holds out hands to catch pearls of wisdom*

Thanks Kevin.

So, bearing that in mind, do you think it would be better *not* to try and get the overpayment written off?
Seems an odd thing to be better for the client, but it might be... Or do I have 6 o'clock syndrome?
