Child (7) DLA appeal: ADHD, Comm's decisions?
Mon 13-Sep-04 10:31 AM

Client's child is diagnosed with ADHD and she says he needs constant supervision because he has no sense of danger and is aggressive to younger siblings. He also has mild learning difficulties. Can anyone suggest any tactics on wording appeal submission, and helpful comm's decisions, please?

We have done quite a few ADHD/ADD DLA cases, some with associated Dyslexia and or Dyspraxia. If you'd like to let me have your Email, I'll see what Submissions we have on the system which might be helpful to you.

I wish it to be known that Mike Shermer is a wonderful human being, who despatched - via these strange computer-thingies - some excellent information on ADHD, etc., to me within a day of being asked.
He also has Welsh roots, which makes him even better!
There, I've said it - now censor me Shawn!!

Mike - now is the time to run for some form of elected office; you've got fans in Cardiff, Derby AND someone e-mailed me from Glasgow earlier, for your "magic ADHD info'" - you only need the south-east and you've got the country sown up butti!

Lets have the ADHD submissions in swopshop .

By the way I am orignally fromthe North East, but lived in Wales for 5 years, one of them in Cardiff, so I know Splott (nearly bought a house there)

I got midle rate care for a clients son who had ADHD last year without an appeal, so are the decision makers in the DLA unit getting more harsh?

None of mine have got to Appeal yet ...they all had to go through reconsideration though - including all the renewals - it's not that they are getting any more difficult, just a seemingly total lack of knowledge as to the condition and the havoc it can wreak.....ask any parent with a child with the full blown variety of the condition

In response to the amount of interest that this posting has had shown in the subject, we are now in the process of putting together a fact sheet on applying for DLA for children with ADHD, with various links attached, which (hopefully, maybe, optimistically) should be posted on Rightsnet some time next week.

i suppose it's quite reassuring to jump on this bandwagon - at least I'm not the only advisor who can't get to grips with child/ dyspraxia/ ADHD DLA appeals. Any offers of info relevant to a DLA appeal for a 15 year old with Dyspraxia/ autistic spectrum disorder very very gratefully received. the decision-maker says he needs 'no more encouragement' than an average 15 year old as 'no 15 year old boy likes getting washed, dressed or go to school'.
thanks
Caroline

God bless you Mike - there might (councillors depending!) be a vacancy in Cardiff soon; don't want to return to your ethnic roots do you? !!
