Client asked for £1198 in DWP letter. Had no knowledge of owing them anything. Rang, & was told she owed £1198 from 1990 when she was claiming IS. No details provided of how this alleged overpayment arose.

Client says she has had absolutely no contact from DWP about this before. Am I right in thinking that the Statute of Limitations applies to this, so they can't pursue recovery in the Courts?

Also, if that is the case, could they still try to pursue it under "common law"? Does anyone know the outcome of CPAG JR - I believe the hearing was to bein January?
