income support and working
Tue 14-Apr-09 01:42 PM

Client has started working 16 hours a week. Is a single parent. She has told us that she will continue to be entitled to income support for a year as an incentive to work ( as well as her WTC and CTC). Is this correct?

Needs to work 16hrs/wk or more to get WTC, can't get IS if working 16hrs/wk or more. Hence could only get WTC and CTC in the situation you describe.

Thanks, thought so. There has been a mistake somewhere. She went into Jobcentre to tell them she is working, they helped her to claim WTC and CTC, but she is still getting IS. Oh dear!!

I think whoever she spoke to is getting confused with Return To Work Credit, which is payable for 52 weeks in certain circumstances to people who were sick then return to employment.

Jobbycentreminus offices really are very poor with their benefits advice, now that all the "experts" work in Benefit Delivery Centres.
